Ergonomic Computer Desk - Page 2

Many companies may claim to be selling an ergonomic computer desk, when, in fact, they are simply using the term to sell furniture. Many designs that are so-called “ergonomic” may not have the comfort of the user in mind at all. For instance, a big “ergonomic” craze in the 80s was the backless, S-shaped chair. These were soon discontinued because many workers found them much less comfortable than traditional chairs. Since there is not regulation of the term “ergonomic” advertisers can use the term at will for anything with a slightly unusual design. The way to avoid falling into this trap is to do research on ergonomic design before purchasing your ergonomic computer desk.

There are many different kinds of ergonomic computer desks. Any good model will be easily adjustable to suit each individual worker. If you want to be absolutely certain that your ergonomic computer desk is the right one for you, it might be a good idea to take your measurements and adjust your desk accordingly rather than relying on approximations. You will need a partner for this who can also tell you if you are sitting well in a certain position or not. Sometimes a person cannot see that how they are sitting at a desk will affect their comfort after a long period of time. This is why another pair of eyes from the outside is a good idea.

An adjustable ergonomic computer desk might solve most of your discomfort. After all, the people who design desk make certain assumptions about the size of the “average” worker, as if there is such a thing. Once you have adjusted your ergonomic computer desk to the right height, you will also want to find an adjustable ergonomic seat to go with it.

Many ergonomic computer desks focus on compartmentalization. Some have shelves on three levels: one to contain the computer monitor, a middle shelf for a text or notes and a space below for a keyboard. Make sure that you adjust the height correctly so you are not straining to see the monitor, which should be angled in a downward position.
